The MX890 was introduced in the early 1980s and was used on many early BMX models. It was popular because of its low weight and relatively long reach compared with later BMX brakes such as the MX1000.
Although it is primarily designed for BMX, it can also be used on other bikes if the reach (distance from the center bolt to the rim) matches the rim and frame geometry.
